iPod Touch-ing Students' Lives

The iPod Touch is a portable media player, personal digital assistant, and Wi-Fi mobile device that students and teachers are beginning to use in some of the classrooms of Navasota ISD. The iPod touch can be used in a wide variety of ways. There are more than 100,000 applications that could be downloaded for the iPhone or iPod Touch at Apple's iTunes Store, and many of these apps are geared directly at using the iPod Touch in education.

50 Educational Apps for the iPod Touch

  • Navasota Mayor Bert Miller records a voice-over of the childrens' story "How I Became a Pirate" to be used in a reading center in Jennifer Ramirez's bilingual 3rd grade class at Webb Elementary.

  • Eighth grade students in Monica Guerrero's desktop publishing class use the iPod Touch lab and the app, Animation Creator, to create animations similar to flip books.

  • Ms. Tabor's 8th grade science classes using the iPod Touch lab to study vocabulary words about different rock types (using the Flash Cards app). The teacher created the flash cards and then uploaded them to the iPods.
