What path do we take?

A planning advisory committee met at Navasota Junior High School Thursday, Dec. 19, to begin discussion regarding a facilities master plan for Navasota ISD. Participants included parents, students, business representatives, school district representatives, and representatives from the Texas Association of School Boards and SHW group, specialists in school facility improvement.

The master planning process follows the completion of a facilities study conducted by the Texas Association of School Boards and a demographics study conducted by Templeton Demographics. The studies frame facilities issues related to:

  • Safety and Security
  • Building Capacities
  • Infrastructure

  • Superintendent Rory Gesch opened the meeting with an invitation for attendees to participate in a process to analyze the results of the two studies, consider the implications for education in Navasota ISD, and develop ideas for moving forward.

    Also:
    • Gary Marek of the Texas Association of School Boards (TASB) presented the results of a facilities study TASB conducted in the school district this fall. TASB's participation in the process is as an independent third party support to the Board of Trustees as the district works with other consultants on a master plan.
    • Chief Administrative Officer Ronnie Gonzalez presented an assessment of the school district's technology infrastructure, including recent network, bandwidth, and hardware analyses and projections for all campuses.
    • Assistant Superintendent/Chief Financial Officer Tim Seymore presented the findings of the demographic study that indicate, by current enrollment trends, the school district will experience overcrowding as soon as 2015.
    • Gesch discussed portions of the school district's strategic plan. The strategic plan frames goals and objectives for the school district in the areas of student learning, community & parent involvement, quality staffing, and resources & facilities. The five-year strategic plan was completed in 2010 and updated in 2013.
